Dyslexia Therapy
We understand the struggle your student is experiencing and how to help!
Reading can be overwhelming for many students. In order to be a successful reader the brain has to be able to connect letters to sounds, put them in the correct order, group words together to form sentences and paragraphs while still remembering and comprehending the passage read. For students who are dyslexic or struggle with reading this is difficult to achieve. These students need systematic instruction to master the many processes necessary to become a successful reader.
Tennessee Dyslexia Centers utilize a structured literacy multi-sensory approach. Dyslexia therapy is provided for Kindergarten through 8th grade. Our therapy program is designed to meet your student’s individual needs in the following areas:
-
Reading
-
Spelling
-
Fluency
-
Comprehension

Vocabulary

A structured literacy approach emphasizes systematic teaching of all important components of literacy. These components include both foundational skills (e.g., decoding, spelling) and higher-level literacy skills (e.g., reading comprehension, written expression). This approach also emphasizes oral language abilities essential to literacy development, including phonemic awareness, sensitivity to speech sounds in oral language, and the ability to manipulate those sounds.
The TDC uses a Orton Gillingham or Lindamood Bell multi-sensory approach, which stimulates all areas of the brain. Your student will work with 8 to 12 different activities in a 2 -hour time period. We create an enjoyable learning environment while increasing your student's confidence and skills. Home activities can be provided to enhance the skills learned.
We also provide study skills, test-taking development, organization strategies, exam preparation, and executive function assessment and development.
